Where Notta is genuinely the better choice
Notta has been shipping since December 2019, holds roughly a 4.0-star average across about 1,400 US ratings, and its listing declares 21 languages. It runs on the web as well as on mobile, it has team and workspace features, and it connects to video meetings.
Three of those beat us outright and it would be dishonest to frame them as anything else. If you work across several languages, Notta's coverage is far wider than ours. If you need a web app — transcripts on a desktop browser, colleagues on Windows — we do not have one and are not pretending to. If you need a shared team workspace, we have nothing comparable; ours is a personal tool and transcripts leave it as text you send yourself.
We are also the newer product by six years, and we are honest about what that means: no long track record, and no App Store rating history yet.
Where the difference actually shows
The gap is not features, it is where the recording starts. Notta's centre of gravity is a service you send audio to — a browser tab, an upload, a bot in a call. Ours is the ten seconds before that, when something worth keeping is being said in a room and the only question is whether you catch it.
That is why the watch app matters here rather than as a checkbox: raising a wrist and tapping once is a materially different act from unlocking a phone, finding an app and pressing record — and it works with the iPhone out of range. If you have ever lost the first minute of something because you were still getting to the recorder, that is the difference this page is about.

Pick by what you are actually doing
- Choose Notta if you work in more than one language, need a web app, or want colleagues in a shared workspace. Those are real requirements and we do not meet them.
- Choose Record and Transcribe if the recordings that matter start in a room rather than in a browser — in-person meetings, interviews, lectures and your own thinking out loud — and you would rather the audio never left your phone.

What is the best Notta alternative for iPhone?
It depends which half of Notta you use. If you want its web app, its 21 languages or its team workspace, no iPhone-only app replaces that. If what you actually use is "record a conversation and get a labelled transcript", a capture-first app on the phone and watch does that with fewer moving parts.
Does Notta record on Apple Watch?
Notta’s App Store listing does include Apple Watch among its supported devices, so it is not a phone-only app. What differs is emphasis: our watch app is the primary capture surface and records with the iPhone out of range, rather than being a companion to a web-first product.
Is Notta free?
Notta is free to download and operates a free tier with usage limits, with paid plans above it. Pricing and limits are theirs to change, so check their current plans rather than any figure quoted on a comparison page — including this one.
How many languages does Notta support?
Its App Store listing declares 21 languages as of August 2026, which is considerably broader than ours. If you work across several languages regularly, that is a real advantage and we would rather say so than bury it.
What happens to my audio with Record and Transcribe?
Audio stays on your device, stored in checksummed segments, and is deleted after transcription unless you choose to keep it. The App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected". There is no cloud workspace holding your recordings, which is also why there is no team sharing.
